TAMPA, Fl – Woodie’s Wash Shack, a local family-owned car wash, placed first in Tampa Bay Chamber’s 2022 Small Business of the Year Awards’ Startup category Wednesday evening.
Woodie’s Wash Shack was announced as the winner from three finalists for the Startup category during the Tampa Bay Chamber’s 2022 Small Business of the Year Awards Reception at Armature Works.
Out of over 400 companies, Woodie’s Wash Shack was selected as a finalist after multiple judge panels determined the company’s story best fit the criteria for the award based on the company’s history, philosophy, management, innovativeness, technology, response to adversity and community contributions.
“The biggest thank you goes to our community,” Jake DeGeare, marketing director at Woodie’s Wash Shack said, “We would not be where we are today without the support and partnership of those in the Tampa Bay community!”
The process to become a finalist began February 2022 and required passing phases with detailed application forms, in-person interviews, financial submissions, creation of a “hype video” and a site visit tour.
“Although it took time and dedication to be here and be able to accept this award,” Melissa Roberts, business development manager at Woodie’s Wash Shack said, “we are most grateful for the countless hours and the heart that the Tampa Bay Chamber has put into our community for us all to be able to be here today.”
Woodie’s Wash Shack opened their first wash in 2019 and has expanded across the Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg area with a total of 10 wash shack locations. They expect to open 13-16 more washes in 2023.
“I can’t say thank you enough to our founder and CEO, Don Phillips, and the entire rest of the Woodie’s team for their dedication,” DeGeare said, “They are the reason we have grown to where we are today. We support and encourage each other no matter the challenge, and that’s truly what sets Woodie’s apart.”
The surf-inspired car wash features the most cutting-edge technology in the car wash industry, including a conveyor belt built to be safe on rims and tires, a 100-foot tunnel that allows for additional services and longer wash times, an extra wide tunnel that can accommodate vehicles up to 7’2” wide and 7’2” tall and a ceramic seal treatment to protect car paint from the sun, sand and UV rays.
In addition to their technology and innovation, Woodie’s Wash Shack believes in old school values and trains their “surf crew” to serve customers with courtesy and to take ownership of anything that does not meet expectations.
As a community-oriented car wash, Woodie’s Wash Shack partners with many local organizations including Surfers for Autism, Experienced Autism Alliance, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as well as multiple schools, chambers and sports leagues.
